Being and doing

Wearing an 80-meter-long red dress (the length of the building's stairwell), she sits in the audience benches for two and a half hours, inflating white balloons with every out-breath; she only breathes out while inflating balloons. She throws the balloons onto the dance floor. At he other end of the studio there are three TV-monitors, showing the artist's journey up the stairs wearing the dress, the making of the dress, and live CCTV footage of her face.

This performance took place on the second floor of Chisenhale Dance Space, London, as part of Lakmaier's 'Dance and the Homemade' commission.
